Staff recommended permit for new Hornby fire hall

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee was asked to direct staff to issue Development Permit HO-DP-2015.1 for a proposed new fire hall on Crown land held under tenure by the Comox Valley Regional District. [1]
The staff report said the application was consistent with the Official Community Plan and the land-use bylaw, which permits a fire hall in the Public Use zone. [1]
The site is on the north side of Central Road beside Joe King Park, and the licensed area is approximately one hectare. [1]
The application included a hydrological assessment that proposed directing roof water, perimeter drains and wash basins to a bioswale and using rainwater stored in cisterns for non-potable fire-department operations such as truck washing, irrigation and laundry. [1]
The staff report said Island Health would require the sewage-disposal system to be filed, water-supply and quality requirements would need to meet Island Health requirements, and the applicant would require a Siting and Use Permit from the Islands Trust. [1]
