Hornby trustees vote to ask BC Parks about Tribune Bay work

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee voted to ask staff to send BC Parks a letter expressing concerns about the Tribune Bay Provincial Park works plan. [1] The request covers the community consultation process, a changing work plan, campsite and wetland locations, the volume and number of truckloads of gravel and rocks, and additional zoning issues. [1]
The minutes say the trustees discussed community concerns about the extent of work and the volume of gravel and rock to be trucked onto the island and dispersed in the park. [1] The minutes also record that Trustee Scott opposed writing a letter, saying the work did not extend into wetlands, the campsites had a low impact because they were spread through the forest, the park was not a conservation area, and it was for the benefit of the people of British Columbia. [1]
During public comments, a member of the public raised concerns about the project and asked whether Islands Trust had jurisdiction. [1] The Planner replied that the park and campground were under provincial jurisdiction, the Local Trust Committee had not received the petition, and community members were encouraged to notify the Province. [1]
