Hornby trustees to consider comments on proposed zoning changes
After a community information meeting on the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review, the planner was to bring public feedback to the Local Trust Committee for consideration.

The Hornby Local Trust Committee was to receive a planner’s report on comments about Forest (R4) properties where residents had requested a change to Large Lot (R2) zoning, the meeting minutes say.[1] Trustee Tony Law said the planner would prepare the report for the committee’s consideration at its next meeting.[1]
The May 28 community information meeting was part of a targeted review of the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw, which had received first reading, according to Island Planner Rob Milne.[1] He said feedback from the meeting would be brought to the next committee meeting.[1]
Residents raised the possibility that changing the R4 properties to R2 could allow subdivision without changing the number of dwellings already permitted, and said subdivision could create opportunities for young families.[1] Law said the original zoning had been created to protect the Mount Geoffrey area, and that some privately owned properties remained in the zone after the Mount Geoffrey Park zone was created.[1]
The minutes also record questions about proposed rules for secondary suites, agricultural parcel sizes, residential density and Section 946 subdivisions.[1] Milne said secondary suites were permitted in the proposed Forest (R4) zone.[1]
The next Hornby Local Trust Committee business meeting was scheduled for June 6, 2014, at Room to Grow on Sollans Road, according to the minutes.[1]

Trustee Law explained that the original zoning of the area was necessary to protect the Mt. Geoffrey area from development; privately owned properties as well as Crown land were included at that time. After the creation of the Mt. Geoffrey Park zone, several properties were left remaining in the original zone that had been created. He acknowledged that the viewpoints expressed here have been heard and that the Planner will be preparing a report for the next Local Trust Committee meeting for the Trustees’ consideration.
