Hornby trustees set September review for Rogers cell-tower proposal
Staff will analyze Rogers’ consultation package and prepare a report for the Hornby Local Trust Committee’s next regular meeting.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee will receive a staff report on the Rogers cell-tower proposal at its next regular meeting after staff analyze a package summarizing public consultation and correspondence. No formal response or land-use decision was requested at the June 16 meeting. [1]
Planner Margot Thomaidis said staff would analyze the material for consistency with the Hornby strategy for antenna systems and report back in September. [2]
Rogers consultant Brian Gregg said the proposed tower is on provincial Crown land and that Rogers must obtain provincial approval and a licence of occupation. He said the federal regulator, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, could intervene through an impasse process, but described that option as rare and undesirable. [2]
The minutes record that the provincial formal notification process had begun and could be a multi-year process. [1]
Trustee Grant Scott reported that objections included the tower’s proximity to people, the recycling depot and potential community housing, while younger residents and Hornby and Denman medical personnel supported it. [1]
