Hornby trustees set 67-per-year vacation-rental cap for public input
The Local Trust Committee directed staff to prepare bylaw amendments and return them for consideration at its May 16 meeting.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to prepare amendments that would set a maximum of 67 temporary use permits for vacation rentals per year, with the draft amendments and referral responses to return for consideration of second reading at the May 16, 2025 regular business meeting.[1]
The committee also granted K’ómoks First Nation an extension until July 1, 2025, to respond to referrals for proposed Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 176 and Land Use Bylaw No. 177.[1]
The minutes say the proposed amendments could include clearer water and sewer requirements for vacation rentals, temporarily removing secondary-suite provisions until First Nations input is received, and removing the IA aquifer classification for the Sandpiper and Galleon neighbourhoods.[1]
The committee requested a preliminary discussion with the Comox Valley Regional District about the regulatory, financial and operational implications of building-inspection services before further consideration of policy or zoning amendments that would expand provisions for secondary suites or secondary dwellings.[1]
The committee also requested continued engagement with K’ómoks First Nation on the implications of an island-wide Heritage Conservation Area and low-impact construction standards, and asked staff to inform the Denman Island Local Trust Committee about resolutions concerning building inspection, heritage conservation and housing solutions.[1]
