Hornby trustees seek report on Rogers tower consultation

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to work with Rogers Communications on a report about the applicant’s steps to date and whether they are consistent with the Model Cell Tower Strategy. The motion carried, with Trustee Grant Scott abstaining. [1]
The meeting minutes say the proposal is for a 63 metre tower on Hornby Island. Consultant Brian Gregg said the present location had been selected for existing road and power access, to minimize the ecological footprint and avoid cutting trees. [1]
Public comments included a request to delay the application until the City West fibre-optic line had been in place for six months and to enlarge the notification area to a 1000 metre circumference. [1]
The minutes record that approximately 130 public comments had been received, with roughly one-third supporting the proposal, one-third opposing it and one-third neutral or seeking information. [1]
Gregg said the formal comment period had closed on the 13th, but that a Crown application could take over a year and there was no pressure to end public discussion. He also said another electronic session could be provided. [1]
