Hornby trustees request draft bylaw on ALR housing rules

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee added a review of Land Use Bylaw provisions for residential uses within the Agricultural Land Reserve to its Projects List. [1] The committee also requested that staff bring back a draft bylaw. [1]
The decision followed discussion of an application for two single-family dwellings attached by a breezeway on land within the Agricultural Land Reserve. [1] Staff reported that approval for a second dwelling required Agricultural Land Commission approval and that the proposal appeared to contravene Official Community Plan policy because the second residence was not necessary for farm use. [1]
The committee requested that staff forward application HO-ALR-2016.1 to the Agricultural Land Commission for consideration, including relevant policies. [1]
The committee also adopted bylaws concerning riparian areas and requested a correction to a Land Use Bylaw reference. [1] The meeting was held on June 10, 2016, at Room to Grow on Hornby Island. [1]
