Hornby trustees reject proposed TELUS tower
The Local Trust Committee said it did not concur with the proposed 48-metre radio communications tower and cited land-use and public-consultation concerns.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee voted not to concur with the proposed TELUS 48-metre radio-communications tower, which was described as providing backup communication services. [1]
The committee said the proposal was inconsistent with Islands Trust policy and Hornby Island bylaws because of its location, potential impact on scenic value, proposed siting, possible future modifications, setbacks and public submissions. [1]
The committee also confirmed that the public consultation process undertaken by TELUS followed the basic requirements of the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada Public Consultation Process. [1]
Trustees discussed the tower’s intended purpose, alternative systems for safety in the event of a cable problem, future changes to the tower and the development of a protocol for consultation on communication towers. [1]
The committee requested that the Local Planning Committee consider whether, when and how it would address a Trust Council referral concerning the siting of communication towers. [1]
