Hornby trustees pause density enforcement during bylaw review
The committee put enforcement actions against three properties on hold while the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review proceeds, with the policy set to expire by the end of 2013 unless extended or the review finishes sooner.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee put density-related enforcement actions against three properties in abeyance while the community reviews the area’s Land Use Bylaw and Official Community Plan. The policy says it does not give permission to violate the bylaw and may be changed at any time; it expires on December 31, 2013, or when the review is complete, whichever comes first.[1]
The committee’s resolution identified the properties by lot and plan numbers and street addresses. Those details are not included here.[1]
Planner Rob Milne said the draft Official Community Plan was expected to be ready for public review by October. Trustees also supported holding a community information meeting for summer residents on August 11 to discuss key policies in the draft.[1]
The committee discussed zoning concerns raised during the town hall session, including a request to place two remnant lots in the R2 zone and a question about the zoning of a Ford Cove property. Trustees supported putting the two lots in R2 and said the Ford Cove zoning should align with how the property is used, while seeking dialogue about whether the zoning makes sense for the landowner and community.[1]
The next Hornby Island Local Trust Committee business meeting was scheduled for September 13 at Room to Grow.[1]
