The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee authorized proactive enforcement of vacation-home-rental regulations under Hornby Island Land Use Bylaw No. 150. [1]
The resolution applies to non-compliant short-term vacation rentals advertised in media, properties offering more than one dwelling simultaneously, and rentals where additional people stay in tents, trailers or recreational vehicles. [1]
It also identifies health and safety issues, more than one complaint from the immediate neighbourhood within 200 metres, and rentals that do not meet the Official Community Plan’s residency criteria. [1]
Other listed circumstances include rentals that are not managed locally or were purpose-built as short-term vacation rentals, and complaints from government regulatory officials or the bylaw enforcement officer concerning water overuse, inadequate septic capacity or too many buildings. [1]
The minutes record that the trustees first rescinded Standing Resolution HO-2019-044 before adopting the new standing resolution, and thanked the Advisory Planning Commission for its work on the referral. [1]
