Hornby trustees approve Arts Centre permit and plan OCP meeting
The committee approved an amended development permit for the Arts Centre and voted to plan a special meeting on the Official Community Plan project.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee approved an amended development permit for a new Hornby Island Arts Council Arts Centre building, after removing a greywater underground catchment system from the site plan. [1]
The minutes say the proposal reduced the original building footprint and changed a proposed outdoor hardscaped stage area to a landscaped courtyard. [1] The applicant said the greywater system would cost $50,000 and that the landscaping would use indigenous plants that do not require watering. [1]
The committee also requested staff proceed with planning for a special meeting in April 2023 on the Official Community Plan project and its final report. [1] Staff said the consultants’ final report was expected soon and could be considered at the next regular business meeting in May or at a stand-alone electronic meeting before then. [1]
During public comments, residents raised questions about the proposed Rogers cell tower. Staff said Rogers had made the necessary federal and provincial applications and First Nations referrals, but that it was premature for the committee to give concurrence while technical issues remained. [1] The minutes say staff were waiting for a complete redacted package of public correspondence and First Nations comments before providing a complete analysis. [1]
