Hornby trustees advance roadside ditch setback bylaws
The Local Trust Committee gave third reading to amendments that would exempt certain roadside ditches more than 15 metres from a stream, with a public hearing scheduled for August 14.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee gave third reading to bylaws that would exempt development more than 15 metres from a stream that is a roadside ditch without instream fish habitat, based on specified Stream Identification Reports. [1]
The committee also scheduled a public hearing for August 14, 2015, on the proposed bylaws. [1]
The decision followed discussion of options for addressing concerns about roadside ditches under the Riparian Areas Regulation. Trustees considered documentation suggesting that another assessment could still result in 30 metre Streamside Protection Enhancement Areas. [1]
The committee also gave notice that it intended to forward a Development Approval Information Bylaw to Trust Council for consideration at its September 2015 meeting. [1]
