Hornby trustees advance electronic-meeting bylaw and housing letter

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee forwarded Bylaw 170 to the Islands Trust secretary for Executive Committee approval after giving it three readings at its January 24 special meeting. [1] The bylaw would legally allow regular Local Trust Committee meetings to be held electronically. [1]
The committee also requested that the Financial Planning Committee consider allocating funding and resources from the 2022/2023 fiscal year budget to support Hornby Island Local Trust Committee electronic meetings. [1] Regional Planning Manager Heather Kauer said staff recommended one full-time person to facilitate electronic meetings throughout the Islands Trust, while Trustee Alex Allen said he did not think one staff member could support all local trust committees. [1]
Trustee Scott said the bylaw would not stop delegations or town-hall public participation, and Trustee Scott emphasized that the first four motions allowed electronic meetings if needed but did not stop or limit those forms of participation. [1]
The committee also directed Trustee Scott to draft a letter of support for Beulah Creek community housing, send it to Trustee Allen and then to Chair Fast for signature and submission to BC Housing. [1]
