Hornby trustees adopt proactive vacation-rental enforcement rules
The rules identify circumstances that can trigger enforcement, including advertising non-compliant rentals and neighbourhood complaints.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee adopted a standing resolution authorizing proactive enforcement of Land Use Bylaw No. 150 regulations for Vacation Home Rentals. [1]
The resolution says non-compliant Short Term Vacation Rentals advertised on the internet, in newspapers or through other media will be subject to proactive enforcement. [1]
It also identifies cases involving more than one dwelling being rented simultaneously, additional people staying in tents, trailers or recreational vehicles, health and safety issues, or more than one complaint from the immediate neighbourhood, defined as within 200 meters of the subject property. [1]
Other listed circumstances include rentals that are not locally managed or were purpose-built as Short Term Vacation Rentals, and complaints from government regulatory officials or the bylaw enforcement officer concerning water overuse, inadequate septic capacity or too many buildings on the property. The committee also adopted Bylaw No. 159, the Bylaw Enforcement Notification Bylaw, and trustees said a future project might update regulations affecting contraventions and penalties. [1]
