Hornby trustees add vacation-rental options to review plan
The Local Trust Committee also voted to assess current vacation home rentals and consider temporary permits as part of its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee voted to include options to prohibit new vacation home rentals, assess current rentals and consider temporary permits in its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw Project Charter. [1]
The committee also voted to include a proposal designating all small-lot residential zones as an IA Heavily Developed Aquifer. [1]
The vacation-rental options came from a consultant’s report and included deleting vacation home rentals from the bylaws so there would be no new legal rentals, monitoring the number and use of current rentals, and considering temporary permits for all future rentals. [1]
The committee voted to include affordable-housing options allowing secondary or accessory dwelling units in all zones and policies supporting cooperative housing and purpose-built rental housing. [1]
The committee also included three Advisory Planning Commission recommendations concerning rental tenure, a possible new zone permitting a permanent second dwelling with short-term rentals prohibited, and site-specific applications for a second dwelling for residential rental tenure. [1]
The next regular meeting was scheduled for June 16, 2023, at Room to Grow, and the committee voted to request that meeting be virtual. [1]
