Hornby resort applications deferred for water, parking and safety information
The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee deferred decisions on the resort’s development variance permit and development permit applications to its September 11 meeting.

The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee deferred consideration of the resort’s development variance permit application to the September 11, 2020 meeting, directing staff to confirm consultation with K'ómoks First Nation and requiring responses to BC Ferries’ parking concerns and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure safety concerns.[1]
The variance application seeks reduced front and interior side lot line setbacks and increased height for buildings and structures within 100 metres of the natural boundary of the sea, as well as for accessory buildings and structures.[1]
The committee also deferred the related development permit application to September 11 and requested a water plan, including a water licence application number, prepared by a professional engineer or professional geoscientist.[1]
Staff said new information from BC Ferries and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure raised concerns about proposed parking and commercial access, and recommended deferral to allow the applicant to address them.[1]
The development permit application concerns demolition of existing buildings and construction of a new pub and restaurant with an attached office and accessory residential dwelling unit, plus fifteen visitor accommodation units in four accessory buildings.[1]
