Hornby OCP review moves toward recommendations on housing and rentals
Consultants planned to prepare draft recommendations after a special meeting on housing, riparian areas, Indigenous communications and short-term vacation rentals.

Draft recommendations from a Hornby Official Community Plan review were to go to the Local Trust Committee in January 2023, followed by another round of public engagement in February or March. [1]
The October 6 special meeting focused on four topics: Indigenous communications, riparian areas, housing and short-term vacation rentals. [1]
On housing, consultant Patricia Maloney said feedback from the meeting would be used for draft recommendations to be forwarded to the Local Trust Committee and then presented to the community in the new year. [1]
Discussion included secondary suites, secondary dwellings, multi-unit housing, affordable housing on Public Use zoned land, housing agreements and fast-tracking zoning and permits. [1]
On short-term vacation rentals, Maloney said Temporary Use Permits appeared to be a way of managing them on the Islands, and that concerns included housing values, septic systems and water use. [1]
The meeting was held electronically, and approximately thirty two members of the public attended. [1]

Consultant Maloney noted that a review and summary of the meeting comments would be prepared in October, a draft set of recommendations on all four topics would be prepared in November for review by the LTC in January 2023, after which another round of public engagement could occur in February or March, preferably virtual but possibly split between a virtual and an in-person format, before a final set of recommendations would be drafted before the end of the March contract ending.
