Hornby’s proposed short-term rental bylaws will be presented at the October Community Information Meeting for public feedback on possible amendments, under a motion carried by the Local Trust Committee on September 5.[1]

The committee also asked staff to report at its November meeting on provincial short-term rental registry data from May to September 2025.[1]

The minutes say the proposed bylaws were at second reading and reflected public engagement and Advisory Planning Commission recommendations.[1] Trustees directed staff to present the bylaws at the October meeting but not to include recommendations from the Hornby Island Short-Term Rental Association in the presentation.[1]

The minutes record public comments both supporting regulation and asking that the permitted number of rentals begin at the current level, as well as comments about the island’s summer carrying capacity and ferry traffic.[1]
