Hornby trustees add rental and housing options to OCP review

The Local Trust Committee voted to include consultant proposals on vacation rentals and affordable housing in the project charter for its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review.

The options added to the project charter include prohibiting new vacation-home rentals while allowing some existing rentals to continue as legal non-conforming uses, assessing current rentals, and considering temporary permits for future rentals.[1]

The committee also voted to include consultant options supporting cooperative and purpose-built rental housing, along with three Advisory Planning Commission recommendations on residential rental tenure and second dwellings.[1]

For the vacation-rental review, trustees also voted to include a proposal designating all small-lot residential zones as heavily developed aquifer areas.[1]

The minutes record that trustees received a consultant’s report on the Official Community Plan review, which presented options on riparian areas, Indigenous language, affordable housing and short-term vacation rentals.[1]
