The Hornby Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to remove a draft provision allowing workshop rentals as a home occupation and to add rental of studio, office or workshop space on residential lots to its project list. The committee also asked for exploratory discussion at an upcoming community information meeting.[1]
The committee requested a draft enforcement policy that would make renting an accessory building to a non-resident for use as a studio, office or workshop a low priority while it considers the issue.[1]
Planner Sonja Zupanec said the draft rules permitted renting a workshop or studio on lots over two acres, and outlined concerns including possible plumbing increases in vulnerable aquifer areas and potential conflicts with the Islands Trust Policy Statement.[1]
The committee also supported changes to the draft Official Community Plan, including adding Bird Studies Canada text and mapping, and asked staff to update the draft and post it as the December 2012 version 5.[1]
