The amendment to Hornby Island’s land-use bylaw was adopted at the Aug. 3 meeting; the committee said development must still meet Official Community Plan guidelines for form and character before proceeding.[1]
Trustee Law said the two-year process included public input and strengthened requirements to reflect community concerns about the property.[1]
During the town hall, residents questioned whether the proposed development had enough water and adequate sewage arrangements, and raised concerns about its density.[1]
The proponent said the well’s output was adequate for estimated use and described plans for a water-catchment cistern and low-water-use fixtures.[1]
Director of Local Planning Services David Marlor said Islands Trust staff did not include an engineer or other qualified person to evaluate the water report and relied on the professional report provided by the applicant.[1]
