The proposed vacation-rental rules will return for further work after Hornby Island Local Trust Committee members rescinded the first readings of the Official Community Plan and land-use bylaw amendments on June 1, 2011.[1]
The committee had reviewed changes to both drafts, including a proposed seven-day minimum stay for paying guests and policies addressing water conservation and temporary use permits.[1]
Trustee Fred Hunt asked staff to clarify how a proposed plan to monitor and inspect each vacation home rental would work, while Trustee Tony Law said enforcement priorities should include rentals operating in a dwelling not permitted for that use.[1]
Bylaw Enforcement Coordinator Miles Drew recommended presenting a communications plan alongside the enforcement policy; Chair Louise Bell asked him to draft changes reflecting the discussion.[1]
The committee also requested that staff flag farm-worker housing, agricultural-processing facilities and community food-storage provisions for consideration in the Official Community Plan review.[1]
